[Testing out our 'Is It Open?' service to clarify DBLP data openness! ;-)]

Dear Richard,

I am writing to seek clarification of the 'openness' [1] of the DBLP data:

http://www4.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/dblp/

I wasn't able to find an explicit statement that the data was open such as a reference to an open knowledge or data license [2] so I'm writing to find out what the exact situation is. In particular we would like to know whether the material can be made available under an open license of some kind.

Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards,

Jonathan

Dear Richard,

I am writing to seek clarification of the 'openness' [1] of the DBLP
data:

http://www4.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/dblp/

This service is based on data obtained from the Michael Ley's DBLP
project: http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~ley/db/

The copyright of the data remains with Michael Ley. We believe that we
are allowed to offer this service based on the following statement on
the DBLP website:

"Copyright © 1993-2009 by Michael Ley ( Universität Trier, Informatik, ley@uni-trier.de ). Copying of the "DBLP" bibliography collection is permitted provided
that the copies are not made or distributed for direct commercial
advantage and credit for the source is given. To copy or republish
otherwise requires specific permission."

Best, Richard
