Dear Sir or Madam,

I am working on the Where Does My Money Go? project: http://www.wheredoesmymoneygo.org/

I am writing to seek clarification of the 'openness' [1] of the COFOG data (codes, descriptions etc):

http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cr/registry/regcst.asp?Cl=4

The data is available from your site for "free download" and we would like to use COFOG in our project. However, we weren't able to find an explicit statement that the data was open such as a reference to an open knowledge or data license [2] and so I'm writing to find out what the exact situation is. In particular, we would like to know whether the material can be made available for free use and reuse under a suitable open license such as one of those listed at:

http://www.opendefinition.org/licenses/

Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards,

Dr Rufus Pollock

Dear Sir/Madame,

Thank you for contacting the UN Statistics Division. In order to reproduce or transmit part of our material in either its printed or electronic format you need to request permission to the United Nations Publications Board (unprights@un.org). I have forwarded your e-mail to them. To get an idea of the steps needed for a rights or permissions request, please visit https://unp.un.org/Rights.aspx.

Best regards, UN Statistics Division
